Three naive brothers were left in hospital after reportedly letting a venomous black widow spider bite them in the belief they would become Spider-Man.

The trio – aged eight, 10 and 12 – found the spider in Chayanta, Bolivia. It is reported they believed a bite would turn them into the hit Marvel character.

In the films, character Peter Parker becomes the superhero after he is bitten by a spider. The boys are said to have provoked the spider with a stick before it bit them.

They quickly began suffering from symptoms from the venomous bites, which can include severe muscle pain, abdominal cramps, increased heart rate and muscle spasms.
