NEW DELHI: US President Donald Trump on Monday warned India of “retaliation" if it turns down his request to lift the hold on export of an anti-malarial drug being used in the treatment of covid-19.

Trump, in a call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, had requested the release on hold of hydroxychloroquine. “I said we’d appreciate you allowing our supply to come out.

If he doesn’t allow it to come out. That would be okay but, of course, there may be retaliation," news reports quoted Trump as saying at the daily White House briefing on the coronavirus outbreak. “Why wouldn’t that be?" he later added.
