The coronavirus spike began on July 17 - but why?
region where cases fell.Health Minister Matt Hancock said the reason was 'largely due to households meeting and not abiding to social distancing'.But with easing of the lockdown rules less than two weeks before the spike in cases - is that assessment fair? The surge in cases came just two weeks after the reopening of large parts of the hospitality sector - with pubs, restaurants, hairdressers and hotels opening their doors on July 4.And some people have questioned whether the government, who have been criticised for poor messaging, are shifting the blame onto members of the community. We spoke to a maths expert, professor in public health, councillor and local MP to find out following the announcement that households can no longer meet

Trudeau says he anticipated ‘perception issues’ over WE Charity student grant deal
Justin Trudeau says he knew there would be problems with perception over having WE Charity run a $900-million student-volunteer program, but he believed there was no conflict of interest because his family would not benefit. The prime minister also said he did not seek guidance from the federal ethics commissioner after public servants recommended the WE organization administer the Canada Student Service Grant. This, despite the fact Trudeau said he did know the public and opposition politicians would scrutinize the deal because of his own and his family’s ties to WE, which is why he told the public servants recommending the organization to go back and make absolutely sure they were on solid ground.“I knew there would be perception issues

Blood pressure cuffs, other medical equipment at risk of COVID-19 contamination, says VCH study
novel coronavirus.Person-to-person transmission is believed to be the primary driver of outbreaks in long-term care facilities, says VCH, but their research found that medical equipment is a potential route for transmission. The virus was detected on four of the nine standard reusable blood pressure cuffs that were tested. The virus was also found on the handle of a mobile linen cart, and on the touch display of an electronic tablet used for electronic medication records.VCH says the preliminary findings, which were published in the American Journal of Infection Control, have led to changes at its long-term care facilities.
