UK coronavirus death toll increases by more than 600

The number of people who have died in hospital in the UK after contracting coronavirus has risen by more than 600 in the past day.

A total of 47,806 people have now tested positive for the virus in the UK, and 4,934 of those hospitalised have sadly died. The number of deaths has risen by 621 from Saturday's figure of 4,313, with the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus increasing by 5,903 from 41,903.

The latest update from the Department of Health reads: "As of 9am 5 April, a total of 195,524 people have been tested of which 47,806 tested positive.
