UK coronavirus death toll increases to 36,393

The number of people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK has risen to 36,393. The death toll is up by 351 - from 36,042 at the same point yesterday (Thursday).

As of 9am on May 22, there have been 3,231,921 tests, with 140,497 carried out on Thursday May 21. A total of 2,144,626 people have been testesd - and 254,195 people have been confirmed positive.

NHS England has announced 121 new deaths of people who tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in the country to 25,388.

Of the 121 new deaths announced today, 27 happened on May 21; 61 happened on May 20; and 16 happened on May 19. The figures also show 16 of the new deaths happened between May 3 and May
