The UK coronavirus death toll has increased by 27 in the past 24 hours to a total of 45,300. Hospital deaths in England today were as low as eight, with one in Wales and none in Scotland.
The figure of overall deaths is higher than the increase last Sunday when 21 deaths were recorded in the previous 24 hours. The figures, released by the Department of Health and Social Care, includes fatalities that happened weeks or even months ago that have only been added to the official statistics in the previous 24 hours.
Forty deaths were recorded on Saturday and 114 on Friday. The rolling average continues to trend down albeit at a much slower rate than mid April when the pandemic peaked in the UK.
