The UK's coronavirus death toll in hospitals has risen by 256, passing 28,000. The heartbreaking figure includes 186 deaths in England, 46 in Scotland, nine in Wales, and 15 in Northern Ireland, announced by their respective health authorities.
It means 28,040 people have now died in hospitals across the four countries, with thousands more dying in care homes and private residences.
The youngest victim confirmed in the last 24 hours in England was just 15 years old, the NHS confirmed. Ten of those who died in England, aged between 30 and 94, had no known underlying health conditions.
The Department for Health and Social Care is yet to announce an overall daily death toll, which will include those who died outside hospitals.
