Britain could be the worst-hit country in Europe with 66,000 coronavirus deaths, according to research. Around 151,680 people are likely to die from Covid-19 across the continent, modelling conducted by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington’s School of Medicine suggests.
Just under 5,400 people have died from coroanvirus in the UK so far, but the death toll trajectory is far steeper than other nations.
The country's epidemic also lags behind the rest of Europe by several days. And leading scientists have predicted Britain could see 66,000 deaths by July, which is almost half of Europe's fatalities.
