Despite social and physical distancing, it is still possible in some limited circumstances to make a will at the moment, according to Barrister Tim Bracken.
Mr Bracken , co-author of The Probate Handbook, said it is necessary for three people to all be present together signing a document, which poses "enormous practical difficulties" under the current restrictions.
The Law Society of Ireland has advised solicitors to abide by social distancing guidelines by using large rooms for consultations where possible.
Mr Bracken told RTÉ's Today with Sean O'Rourke that a solicitor can take instructions over the phone or by Skype but any doubts about a person's capacity can only be assessed in person.
