The long lockdown Easter weekend got off to a sizzler yesterday – and it is going to be even hotter today. Temperatures hit the low 20s in most areas as police repeated warnings to stay at home to avoid spreading or catching Covid-19.
A balmy 26C is expected in London and the South East today – warmer than Spain, Rome, Las Vegas and even Marrakesh. Thermometers are due to pass 20C further north in Newcastle, Leeds and Liverpool.
Slightly cooler conditions are predicted for Easter Sunday and there is a chance of intense thundery showers in southern England.
Temperatures are then due to tumble into the low teens – struggling to reach 7C in the North East – but there is no rain in the forecast.
