UK weather: Heatwave brings hottest day of year as Brits told to stay indoors

The nation is set to sizzle today on the hottest day so far this year – but Britons have been told to “stay indoors”. The country has been warned it must not flout strict lockdown laws, ­despite temperatures higher than in the Mediterranean.

And the heatwave shows no sign of slowing down, with weather ­experts forecasting one of the warmest summers on record. They say temperatures could rise to 25C in the coming weeks due to a mass of hot air from Africa and could last for three months.
