The United States's Food and Drug Administration has approved the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for emergency use on Friday.
President Donald Trump has confirmed the first jabs will be administered in less than 24 hours. The development means vulnerable people will start receiving the vaccine in the coming days.
With the authorisation, the United States has become the sixth country in the world to clear the Pfizer jab for use. The US Food and Drug Administration granted an emergency use authorisation for the vaccine, developed with German partnerBioNTech, which was shown to be 95% effective in preventing the disease in a late-stage trial.
