VAR faces axe when football returns after coronavirus crisis due to social distancing rules

Coronavirus chaos might mean VAR gets the boot, it’s claimed. The ongoing pandemic has wreaked havoc with the sporting calendar.

All football is on hold and will only resume behind closed doors in the summer. When proceedings get underway again, strict testing and social distancing measures look set to become the norm.

All VAR decisions are currently made in a small room. And, according to RMC Sport , the executive committee of UEFA will hold crunch talks to decide whether it’s feasible to persevere with the technology.

The next meeting for European football's governing body will take place today. A call will then be made on whether or not VAR is used in the Champions League and the Europa League.
