Victims' bodies 'left in the street' as coronavirus overwhelms healthcare system

The dead bodies of c oronavirus victims are being left on the streets in struggling communities because public services are becoming overwhelmed by the pandemic.

Hospitals in Guayaquil, Ecuador have no beds left to accept sick patients, reports CNN, and morgues, cemeteries and funeral homes are under immense pressure.

It is unclear how many people are dying because of Covid-19, but residents of the poor city claim they have been left with no choice but to place the dead outside in the street.

Families of the deceased say their loved ones had symptoms of the virus, while others only know the ill were unable to be treated at Ecuador's overwhelmed hospitals.
