A brand new ‘early warning’ system for Greater Manchester’s care homes has been drawn up in the space of a week, designed to flag any potential concerns around coronavirus outbreaks and PPE shortages.
Andy Burnham said the move was based on the system routinely used by the NHS to flag trusts under severe pressure, which raises a ‘black alert’ for the most overwhelmed hospitals.
It is thought to be the first time such a system has been set up for social care, in a move that will see the region’s ten councils share a dashboard of information on which homes are reporting problems, so that other parts of the system can step in to help.
