PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man has been arrested after officials say he made a business out of selling homemade THC edibles to children as young as 11 years old.Quashon Rice, 20, is accused of manufacturing and selling THC-laced "treats," then delivering them to schools, park and children's homes all over Montgomery County.Officials say an investigation was launched in May when a student at East Norriton Middle School became sick after unknowingly eating a drug-laced rainbow-colored Rice Krispy treat.The treat was reportedly given to him by another student, who was selling edibles purchased from Instagram. The student paid cash for the edibles, which were delivered directly to them at a park in their neighborhood.According to an investigation, Rice communicated with multiple juveniles through two Instagram accounts; "top2treats" and "toptreatz4." He allegedly quoted specific prices, delivery fees and available THC products; including Fruity Pebbles bars, cookies, brownies and Cinnamon Toast Crunch bars.Evidence proved Rice knew he was selling drugs to children as young as 11 years old, officials say. Detectives also found Rice was soliciting juveniles to help him sell the drug-laced edible for a discount.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - An elderly woman was killed after she was hit by a vehicle in North Philadelphia.Officials said a woman, thought to be about 80, was crossing the street at the 1900 block of West Oxford Street Wednesday evening, before 7 p.m.While crossing the street, officials said, she was struck by a black truck.Medics rushed the woman to Temple University Hospital, where she died.The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

PHILADELPHIA - Law enforcement sources say two young men each accused of fatally shooting innocent bystanders during the chaotic South Street shooting arrived in Philadelphia on Wednesday after being tracked down by federal authorities last week in Virginia. FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce was at the Philadelphia Police Administrative building Wednesday afternoon where two silver cars ushered the suspects into a basement parking garage.Quadir Dukes-Hill and Nahjee Whittington, both 18, were taken into custody at an apartment building in Richmond, Virginia by a team of U.S. Marshals. A law enforcement source told FOX 29 that the apartment where the pair were hiding belongs to a friend who also may have ties to Philadelphia.Officials say Dukes-Hill is facing murder charges in the shooting death of 24-year-old Alexis Quinn.

PHILADELPHIA - A DoorDash delivery driver has been charged for shooting a teenage employee at a Chick-fil-A in Crescentville. A spokesperson from the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office said Tyquan Austin, 26, has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault and reckless endangerment. Police say the shooting stemmed from an argument over a milkshake at the fast food restaurant located at 811 Adams Avenue in Crescentville on Monday night. Austin, a food delivery driver for DoorDash, said the order he was picking up was missing a second milkshake. When the server asked to see a receipt to verify the order, Austin pulled out a gun and put it in his lap, according to police. The server recruited his tam leader who asked for the order back and then a manager came out before Austin drove away, authorities say. RELATED HEADLINESPolice say Austin then circled back and fired a single shot at the entrance striking the 17-year-old employee. According to authorities, other people were in the range of gunfire. "The shooting was unprovoked and endangered multiple people beyond the shooting victim, who was wounded in the leg and is expected to recover," the DA's Office said. The DA's Office also says the incident was captured on video and images of Austin helped police identify and locate him. Officers found Austin's car abandoned in an alley with no one inside before a man approached saying he was not the driver, but his belongings were inside, per officials. According to police, he was then taken into custody after police recognized a tattoo on his neck. The victim, who has been released from the hospital, identified Austin as the man who shot him, according to authorities. Police say

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - A very smart, brave, and innocent 15-year-old is recovering after a horrific experience last Friday.Gianna Vitarelli and her girlfriend were leaving Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara when suddenly something happened."Me and her heard a really loud 'thwack' noise and I immediately said 'Ow!'" Gianna recalled.It turns out she was hit by a drive-by pellet gun projectile, a situation the Santa Clara police are now investigating. "We turned around to see what that was, and we just see a car driving off, rolling up its window," the teen said.After blood started flowing from the wound, paramedics thought it was a relatively minor piercing of her skin. But, as her condition worsened, and her breathing was labored, doctors found out it was much worse."My wife took her to urgent care and they had done an X-ray and that's where they found the pellet," said her father, Mike Vitarelli.The pellet had done its damage."It had collapsed my lung, fractured a rib, it caused a lot of internal bleeding and then it almost hit my heart," said Gianna.That serious injury caused Gianna to have emergency surgery and spend three days in the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit.The pellet is and will remain in her lung."It's going to take a long time to recover.

Police looking for gun theft suspect in Philadelphia. PHILADELPHIA - A gun was stolen from a car in Kensington Monday afternoon, and now police are looking for the suspect.Police say a 29-year-old woman's 40-calliber Glock 23 was taken from her vehicle on the 1800 block of E.

PHILADELPHIA - A new basketball court paying homage to Philadelphia-native, the late Kobe Bryant, and his daughter Gianna Bryant was unveiled at the Tustin Recreational Playground at 501 W Columbia Avenue in the city's Overbrook neighborhood. Vanessa Bryant and her daughters traveled to Philadelphia on Tuesday to unveil the new court with city leaders and charity partners. She says Philadelphia is where her late husband's love for basketball began and Tustin Playground is a place he frequented when he was younger. "I chose this location so that young people in this community may have a safe space to play with equal opportunity, which was important to Kobe and Gianna," Vanessa Bryant wrote on Instagram. Bryant partnered with Nancy Lieberman Charities' Dream Courts initiative, which strives to make basketball more accessible for children while providing them with a safe environment to play in. The first Kobe & Gianna Bryant Dream Court opened at Pearson Park in Anaheim, California in May. Kobe & Gianna Bryant were among the nine people killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California in January 2020. Since their passing, Vanessa Bryant has kept their memories alive through various charity projects including the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, the MAMBACITA X DANNJO collection and the new Dream Courts initiative. 

Police are investigating after a man was fatally shot in North Philadelphia.  PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are looking into the fatal shooting of a man on Tuesday night. Police say gunshots were reported on the 100 block of W Indiana Avenue. Officers found a 47-year-old man on the ground with gunshot wounds to the back and arm, according to authorities. Officials say police rushed him to Temple Hospital, but he was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESTwo spent shell casings were discovered at the crime scene, police say. According to authorities, investigators believe he may have been targeted. The investigation is active and ongoing.

PHILADELPHIA - The mother of a teenage Chick-fil-a employee who police say was shot by a disgruntled delivery driver Monday night says her son is home from the hospital with a bullet still lodged inside his leg. The teen was found shot in the knee when police responded to the fast-food restaurant on Adams Avenue in Philadelphia's Crescentville neighborhood. The shooting reportedly stemmed from an argument between a delivery service driver and store employees over a pick-up order.According to police, a serve brought a DoorDash driver a pick-up order that the driver claimed was missing a second milkshake.

PHILADELPHIA - Calls to reopen shuttered Philadelphia community pools grew on Tuesday, with protesters using inflatable pools to help make their point. Community members say the pool at the Sayer Morris Rec Center in West Philadelphia started to close regularly in seven years ago and finally drained in 2017. The Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation claimed lifeguard shortages and maintenance issues caused the pool - and others like it - to close. UPPER MERION, Pa. - Police are searching for a group of young men who they say tried to steal two purses in the parking lot of King of Prussia Mall and fled in a carjacked vehicle. The Upper Merion Police Department said at least two attempted thefts happened in the mall parking lot around 9 p.m. Monday. A woman reported that she was getting into her car when she was approached by a young man who tried to forcibly take her purse, according to police. The woman told officers that a red sedan with at least two others inside parked behind her during the attempted theft. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESWhile responding officers were talking to the victim, police were approached by another woman who said someone in a passing red sedan tried to steal her purse. The second victim told police the attempted theft happened in the parking lot near the Neiman Marcus store. Authorities used surveillance footage to discover that the vehicle, a red 2010 Toyota Corolla, was reported stolen earlier in the day during a carjacking in Philadelphia. The Upper Merion Police Department shared photos of the suspects and the vehicle.

David Elmakayes, 26, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for blowing up an ATM in North Philadelphia during civil unrest in 2020.  PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for blowing up an ATM during the civil unrest in spring 2020. According to United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams, 26-year-old David Elmakayes was given the sentence and three years of supervised release for "using an explosive device to damage an ATM machine and for illegally possessing a firearm." Elmakayes was charged with malicious damage of property with an explosive device, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and related charges on June 18, 2020. Officials say on the night of June 3, 2020, he used an explosive device to damage an ATM on the 200 block of East Westmoreland Street in North Philadelphia. FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser reports.According to authorities, at the time of his arrest, Elmakayes also had three more explosive devices in his possession along with a .32 caliber pistol. MORE LOCAL HEADLINES"This defendant took advantage of a volatile situation on the streets of Philadelphia to commit a dangerous act that could have injured many people," Williams said. "Damaging property with an explosive device and illegally carrying a firearm are federal crimes which our Office will aggressively prosecute.

Man in custody after reported barricade situation in Burlington County BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. - A man is in custody after officials say a fatal shooting developed into an hours-long standoff Tuesday morning.SWAT teams responded after a man reportedly barricaded himself inside a home on the 600 block of Bentley Avenue in Burlington County.Officials say another man was shot to death inside the home around 1:15 a.m., prompting a standoff with law enforcement.A woman and four children were released unharmed after several hours, according to officials. The suspect surrendered around 8:30 a.m. Beverly City School, which is across the street, was shut down as the standoff unfolded."Due to police activity currently taking place on Bentley Avenue, the Beverly City School District will be closed on Tuesday, June 14th, 2022, to ensure everyone's safety," the school said in an alert on their website.No further details regarding the man in custody, or the cause of the barricade were provided by officials.

Police say teen shot at motel in New Castle. NEW CASTLE, Del. - A 14-year-old boy was struck after police say gunfire erupted during a drive-by shooting outside a motel Monday night.Police say multiple gunshots were fired from the passenger side of a dark-colored sedan.

PHILADELPHIA - A man has been hospitalized after he was shot multiple times in Philadelphia's Powelton neighborhood, police say. According to authorities, officers responded to the 600 block of N Preston Street around 1:11 a.m. Tuesday. Police say an unidentified man, believed to be about 25,  was shot nine times throughout his body. He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he is in critical condition, per officials. Police say no arrest has been made and a weapon was not recovered. Authorities are also investigating a stabbing that took place around 2:40 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a young man was shot just feet from the front door of his North Philadelphia home Monday evening. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 2800 block of Bonsall Street from 5 p.m. for reports of gunfire. Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that officers found a crime scene, but they did not locate a victim. Police were later told that the victim, a 22-year-old man, was placed in a flatbed truck by family members and taken to a nearby hospital. MORE HEADLINESSmall said the unnamed victim was shot in the forehead, neck and shoulder by an unknown shooter.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia leaders on Monday announced funding to install 100 security cameras near public schools impacted by gun violence, according to a press release.City council, along with Mayor Jim Kenney and Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw, backed incoming legislation that includes $1.8M to fund a minimum of 100 security cameras near 15 schools where students have been victims of gun violence while traveling to and from the school building. The School District of Philadelphia's Safety Office and the Philadelphia Police Department collaborated to select the list of schools. HARRISBURG, Pa. - Three Republican members of the Pennsylvania House announced plans to draft articles of impeachment against Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. On Monday, Pennsylvania House Republicans Josh Kail, Torren Ecker and Tim O’Neal made the announcement in Harrisburg. None of the three officials involved represent the constituents of the Philadelphia area. The announcement of plans to draft articles of impeachment comes as Krasner faces continued criticism about his office’s handling of gun cases in the city plagued by gun violence and rising crime. Krasner, who is on his second term, was first elected to the role in 2017 with a focus on supporting victims, exonerating innocent people wrongly convicted of crimes and reducing the population of local jails. RELATED HEADLINESCritics have blamed Krasner and other progressive prosecutors for an increase in gun crimes, while supporters say the rise in crime could be attributed to reduced social services and economic instability caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. "Lives have been lost, property has been destroyed and families have been crushed. PHILADELPHIA - A suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of Francis "Frankie" Decero, a Philadelphia man whose body was found shot, stabbed and burned in May, police say.Joseph Rodriguez, 22, has been charged with the murder of 25-year-old Decero, who was reported missing from his home on April 26. Surveillance video obtained by FOX 29 shows him double-parking his Jeep near the intersection of 13th and Biglore Streets before he gets into another car that drove off. Decero’s Jeep was located somewhere different with no gas, and he was nowhere to be found. On May 4, officers found an unresponsive male in the area of 31st and Tasker Streets after a group of juveniles said they saw the body in the brush on Douglas Street. Police told FOX 29’s Kelly Rule that they were investigating if Decero was tortured because his body was found shot, stabbed, beaten and burned. Investigators originally followed a lead that Decero might have been targeted over recent lottery winnings, according to a source.

PHILADELPHIA - A man was fatally shot Sunday night after visiting his sick mother, police say. Authorities say the incident happened on the 3300 block of Smedley Street in the city's North Philadelphia neighborhood just before 10:30 p.m. According to police, officers with the 39th District responded to several calls reporting gunshots. When police arrived on scene, they found a 40-year-old man on the ground next to his vehicle with the door open, per officials. Authorities say the man was shot at least one time in the head and he was bleeding heavily. Officers rushed the man to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:39 p.m., police say. Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small says investigators know at least two shots were fired from a large caliber semiautomatic weapon. Investigators also believe the shooter was standing very close to the 40-year-old victim at the time of the shooting, according to police. "This is a tragic story because this 40-year-old does not live here," Small said. "He comes here and takes care of his mother who is sick, and he comes here on a regular basis [to] take care of his mother.

PHILADELPHIA - It's been a week since a deadly mass shooting on South Street completely rocked the city of Philadelphia.Three people were killed and nearly a dozen injured after gunmen opened fire on South Street as crowds gathered for a busy Saturday night.Restaurants and stores along the popular thoroughfare say they have experienced a significant decline in business since the devastating shooting, and are now asking the community for support."It was definitely a challenging week," said Nora Portugal, owner of Nora’s Kitchen on 3rd and South streets.Despite the summer weather and several events happening in the area, Potrugal says business just hasn't kept up. Some barricades from last weekend still remain in place outside some stores."This is our high season," she said.

PHILADELPHIA - Two female victims were injured after police say they were shot in Kensington early Sunday morning.The alleged shooting occurred on the 300 block of East Westmoreland Street around 4:37 a.m.Police say a 17-year-old suffered a graze wound to the back of the head. She was transported to Temple University Hospital, where she is said to be in stable condition.Another victim, a 22-year-old woman, was reportedly shot in the arm.

The child's grandmother was also wounded and told police that Darain Bennett took the child. The toddler and suspect are believed to be traveling in a black Honda Accord.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia City Council is debating lowering the city's curfew for all children ages 16 to 18.A bill introduced Thursday would change the curfew to 10 p.m. Any kids caught out after that time would be taken to curfew centers.Currently, 16 and 17-year-olds are allowed to stay out until midnight in Philadelphia.The proposed change comes after a deadly shooting on South Street killed three and inured nearly a dozen last weekend.Council member Katherine Gilmore Richardson, who introduced the bill, says the change will "help us keep more young people safe."Mayor Jim Kenney says amending the minor curfew law would take police officers off the street."I don't think resident of any neighborhood would be appreciative of officers leaving their post to accompany minors to a curfew center," Kenney said.The new curfew would be in effect until September 29, after the school year is in full swing.Under the current curfew, 14- and 15-year-olds are required to be indoors by 10 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say two daytime shootings in West Philadelphia have left two men in critical condition Saturday.A 28-year-old man was reportedly shot five times on the 400 block of North Daggett Street around 2 p.m. He was struck once in the arm, once in the stomach and three times in the back.He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.Less than an hour later, police say another man is in critical condition after being shot about 4 miles away on the 1700 block of Wilton Street.
