It is incredible to think how far Liverpool have come in the last decade. Ten years ago this July, Roy Hodgson was appointed manager and, presiding over a squad that was barely above mid-table, was promptly sacked in January 2011.

He made seven signings during the summer of 2010 for a combined fee of £28million, failing to improve a weak squad and paying the price just six months into his tenure.
