Two weeks after the lifting of the mandatory requirement to wear masks in certain situations, the number of PCR-confirmed cases of Covid-19 remains relatively high in Ireland.
On 28 February when the mask mandate ended, the seven-day rolling average of PCR-confirmed cases was 3,378. A few days ago, on 11 March, the seven-day rolling average was higher at 3,818.
Last Friday, 9,186 PCR-confirmed cases were reported plus 6,752 self-reported positive antigen tests. That was almost 16,000 cases in one day.
We must also take into account that PCR tests are not being done for people under 55 years now with symptoms, except for those who are immunocompromised and people with high-risk medical conditions.
