Wigan council is sourcing its own personal protective equipment for care homes amid concerns about a ‘chaotic’ national supply chain.
The town hall has sourced 50,000 PPE a week and has made at least two deliveries to each of the borough’s 52 care homes and other supported living facilities.
And more is on the way, it said. Councillors said they had been left with ‘no choice’ but to buy their own stock after drops provided by the government were not enough to meet demand.
