An elderly Italian woman who survived the Spanish Flu pandemic more than 100 years ago has become the oldest person in the world to overcome coronavirus.

Ada Zanusso, 104, became ill after catching the virus at her care home in Biella, northern Italy, last month, where 20 other residents sadly died.

But the mum-of-four's remarkable recovery is now being hailed by doctors as a "sign of good hope". She developed a fever on March 17 and had trouble breathing before she was officially diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus.

Her recovery is even more incredible as she previously survived the Spanish Flu pandemic as a small child. Between 1918 and 1920, some 50 million people died worldwide from the influenza strain.
