A workman was left with horrifying injuries after being blasted with superheated steam in an accident at an oil refinery in North East England.
Apprentice Scott Irvine was left with burns covering 60 per cent of his body after being hit with a 400C jet of steam leaving him hospitalised for months and requiring specialist treatment.
Mr Irvine was in hospital for six months and required a further 13 months of rehabilitation after the accident threw him across scaffolding when the incident occurred at the Phillips 66 Humber refinery in 2013.
Supervisor Dene Leggett was also injured, suffering burns to 40 per cent of his body in the accident – which bosses admitted could have killed both men.
