Federal officials charge 8 in connection with carjackings, violent crimes across Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - Federal law enforcement officials announced charges for eight people suspected of being connected to carjackings and violent crimes across Philadelphia. On Wednesday, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Philadelphia released the names of six new defendants in the case who are charged with carjacking and carrying and using a firearm during a crime of violence.Two other defendants, Alex Fernandez-Pena and Juan Jose Rodriguez, were charged in February after allegedly carjacking a rideshare vehicle earlier in 2022 in the Parkside neighborhood in Philadelphia.

Suspects sought after 61 shots were fired in Southwest Philadelphia, police say

PHILADELPHIA, Pa - Police are searching for three suspects they say fired dozens of shots at a man in a Southwest Philadelphia shooting that was caught on video late last month.The shooting occurred on the 2500 block of South Shields Street on March 18. Police say the 61 shots that were fired only damaged unattended vehicles. No people were reported to be injured. In a doorbell camera video that captured the shooting, three males are seen running down South Shields Street, firing gunshots at a fourth male.

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, with assistance from Attorney General Keith Ellison, has declined to bring charges against Mark Hanneman, the Minneapolis police officer who shot and killed Amir Locke while serving a no-knock search warrant in February.Mike Freeman, the Hennepin County Attorney, wrote there is "insufficient admissible evidence" to file criminal charges in the case."Specifically, the State would be unable to disprove beyond a reasonable doubt any of the elements of Minnesota’s use-of-deadly-force statute that authorizes the use of force by Officer Hanneman. Nor would the State be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt a criminal charge against any other officer involved in the decision-making that led to the death of Amir Locke," Freeman wrote.Freeman and Ellison also suggested to policymakers they should reconsider using no-knock warrants."Amir Locke’s life mattered," they wrote.

PHILADELPHIA - Advocates and community organizers in Philadelphia are calling for a change after a rise in gun violence, which has started to claim the lives of children and teenagers. On Monday, 15-year-old Juan "J.R." Carlos Robles-Corona was fatally shot while walking home from school in North Philadelphia. Juan Carlos Robles-Corona, who went by "J.R.", was shot and killed in North Philadelphia. His death came a little more than a week after another 15-year-old was shot and killed in Wissonoming.
