A futile, infuriating, depressing waste of time: my verdict on job websites

With vast numbers of jobs being lost in the pandemic there will be lots of people looking for work when the lockdown is lifted.

So it’s a crying shame that online recruitment sites can be such a waste of time. I’ve been putting them to the test and what I've found is damning.

My search began by putting “fruit- picking jobs Sussex” into Google and one of the first results was from jobs-bear.com. This lot claims to have a simple mission: “Helping you find the job you want with ease”.

It promised: “Hundreds of fruit-picking jobs for immediate start, apply online today with 1 click.” One click? Sounded great.
