Self-employed workers are now able to claim support worth 80% of their average earnings in an effort to cover the impact of coronavirus, Rishi Sunak announced on Thursday.

The Chancellor said the move, worth up to a maximum of £2,500 per month, would cover 95% of self-employed workers. Guidance on the new scheme is now available on the gov.uk website and it explains that a person can apply if they're a self employed individual, or a member of a partnership. You can apply if:You have submitted your Income Tax Self Assessment tax return for the tax year 2018-19Traded in the tax year 2019-20Are trading when you apply, or would be except for Covid-19Intend to continue to trade in the tax year 2020-21Have lost trading/partnership trading
