MUMBAI: Construction giant Larsen & Turbo Ltd (L&T) has set aside ₹500 crore per month to support its 1,60,000 contract workers amid reports of exodus of migrant workers for their homes during the 21-day lockdown.
The contract workers are being paid their wages and are provided with basic amenities at their labour camps, "...while maintaining the COVID-19 prevention and containment protocol", said L&T in the press statement.
The company said it has maintained hygiene and waste management, and initiated catering and preventive measures such as social distancing at the labour camps.
The commitment from a corporate comes amid the exodus of migrant workers from constructions sites in metros such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru
