Atletico Madrid are reportedly set to be invited to play in next year’s Champions League by UEFA, despite currently sitting sixth in La Liga.
Both the Champions League and the Europa League have been postponed due to coronavirus pandemic, as have all of Europe’s top leagues.
That means it could be difficult to decide who qualifies for next season’s European club competitions. Most leagues are still set to finish their current campaigns, but others like Belgium’s Pro League are planning to take end based on the current standings.
That could cause complications with the qualification system for the Champions League and the Europa League, with preliminary knockout rounds starting midway through the summer.
