Scientists believe an anti-viral nasal spray could stop coronavirus reaching the lungs, following positive lab tests in the UK.
University of St Andrews spin-out company Pneumagen has carried out three separate lab-based studies into preventing different coronavirus infections.
The tests also looked into stopping the Sars-CoV-2 virus, which is the cause of Covid-19. They used Neumifil and multivalent Carbohydrate Binding Modules (mCBMs) in the studies, generated using its GlycoTarge technology.
Neumifil, the company's lead mCBM, is already being developed for the universal treatment of respiratory tract infections (RTIs), including Influenza Virus (IFV), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and now coronaviruses.
