Locked down Brits could still enjoy late summer holidays despite the coronavirus pandemic, if social distancing measures are upheld, an EU chief has revealed.

European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen has said "smart solutions" are possible once the outbreak begins to slow - but that could mean sunbathing in plexiglass boxes.

This comes after Transport Secretary Grant Shapps warned Brits against booking summer getaways which sparked outrage from the travel industry, with millions of jobs at risk.
