The Cabinet will today consider a raft of tighter public health restrictions, including stricter rules for travellers flying into Ireland and the closure of non-essential construction.
Ministers will consider closing most schools for January except for children with special needs. Minister for Education Norma Foley will examine measures for Leaving Cert students.
All ECCE / preschools will close with crèches only open for children of essential workers and vulnerable children. The recommendations were agreed by the Cabinet sub-committee on Covid yesterday.
The message from Government is that the country is returning to the type of severe restrictions seen during the first wave of the virus.
