Government support is needed to ensure childcare facilities will be able to re-open after the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the Federation of Early Childhood Providers.
Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Sean O'Rourke, Chairperson Elaine Dunne said members of her organisation were not asking parents to pay full fees to childcare providers despite the childcare facilities being closed.
However, Ms Dunne said that some providers may be asking parents to pay a "holding fee" of around €150 a child per month. She said this was necessary to sustain staff wages, and called for Government support for the sector as a whole.
