Celebrations held across the Stewartry to mark 75th anniversary of VE Day

The Stewartry marked the 75th anniversary of VE Day.And celebrations still went ahead despite the coronavirus lockdown.Socially distant parties took place in communities with decorations up in most towns and villages.There were ceremonies at war memorials and the Queen’s Speech was broadcast from the tower at Balmaghie Kirk.Residents of Fleet Street in Gatehouse celebrated with a “sit-outside-your-front-door-with-a-drink” party to mark the anniversary.Ann Pickthall suggested the idea and revellers were joined by young piper Regan McKee and Provost Helen Keating who congratulated them on their initiative.
