A Co Clare primary school has been closed for at least a week after a number of staff members were identified as close contacts of a case of Covid-19.

The school notified parents of the closure this afternoon and said it plans to reopen on 9 September. In a message to parents, seen by RTÉ News, it said that no pupil had been deemed a close contact to date and the issue "currently has no implications for students".

The school said it was not possible to remain open without any permanent member of staff. It said that while it regrets the closure it is obliged to follow HSE guidelines.
