PHILADELPHIA - Staff members who rushed to save the life of a 12-year-old boy who collapsed in the school gym were honored Wednesday night for their heroic efforts. Steven Green, a sixth grader at Bala Cynwyd Middle School, was participating in a morning basketball program at the school in February when he collapsed. "I was the first one there, his friends were saying ‘Steven, are you okay!?’ I ran over there and Steven was on the floor and I checked his pulse and there was nothing there," Gym teacher Adam Miller said.Miller called 911 and school nurse Mary Clary rushed into the gym to provide emergency CPR. Reed Messer, 42, was extradited back to Delaware to face sexual abuse and rape charges.  WILMINGTON, Del. - A former educator has been sent back to Delaware after being charged with rape for a sexual relationship with a former student, Delaware State Police say. According to authorities, 42-year-old Reed Messer became the subject of an investigation in December 2022 when State Police received a report from the Delaware Division of Family Services alleging the former teacher had a sexual relationship with a juvenile student at Stanton Middle School in Wilmington nearly a decade prior. Troopers say an investigation revealed Messer had sexual relations with the student in a relationship that began in October 2014 and lasted for about two months. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESOn April 26, troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Messer, who moved to South Carolina, authorities say. Law enforcement in South Carolina found Messer at her residence and took her into custody, according to officials. State Police say Messer was extradited back to Delaware on Monday and charged with sexual abuse of a child and rape.

NEW CASTLE, De. - Police in Delaware say they thwarted a sexual encounter between a man and a 14-year-old girl inside a car after-hours at park in New Castle County.Police on patrol near Glasgow Park early Friday morning saw a vehicle enter the closed park near the intersection of Pulaski Highway and Route 896. Officers approached the vehicle and allegedly found 48-year-old Stephen Gregory in the driver's seat and a 14-year-old female on the passengers side. Police say Gregory showed signs of nervousness when talking to officer and provided vague answers to their questions.

Nathaniel Russell, 59, of Atlantic City, New Jersey EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. - An Atlantic City man has been found guilty of stalking and threatening a New Jersey judge, officials say. After a three-day trial, a jury found Nathaniel Russell, 59, of Atlantic City, guilty of two counts of second-degree terroristic threats, one count of stalking and related charges, according to the municipal court. Authorities say from August 2021 to April 2022, Russell left violent and threatening messages for former Egg Harbor Township Municipal Court Judge Marc Nehmad. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to officials, Russell also stalked Nehmad for more than eight months. His sentencing is scheduled for June 7, 2023. 

EPHRATA, Pa. - The Pennsylvania SPCA is investigating individuals in Pennsylvania for performing illegal surgeries on dogs. According to the agency, the PSPCA's Law Enforcement team executed a search warrant at a property in Ephrata on Wednesday. Authorities say a man was accused of performing illegal neutering surgeries on animals without a veterinary license. On Tuesday, a PSPCA law enforcement officer and a detective from the Lancaster County District Attorney's office visited a victim who said the man performed surgery on her dog in the barn of the property and returned the pet unconscious and bleeding, according to officials. When the owner took her dog home, it was bleeding profusely and its gums were turning white from blood loss, leading the owner to seek emergency care, police say. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say the emergency veterinary clinic determined the surgery site was not cleaned or clipped and that the neuter was not successfully performed, causing bleeding. Investigators later found the man who allegedly performed the surgeries did not have a state license registered in his name. "It is clear that the individual in question is not only taking advantage of pet owners seeking affordable veterinary options but is also putting pets in imminent danger," said Julie Klim, PSPCA CEO. "We are lucky in this case that the owner sought emergency care for her pet, but we may not be able to say the same for others who used this service.
