The Mayor of London has urged people to wear face masks in public during the coronavirus crisis. Sadiq Khan has told the government to change its advice to tell people to wear masks outdoors from now on.
He said in an interview on BBC London that face masks should now be worn when leaving the house. He said: "The evidence around the world is that this is effective, and I'm lobbying our government, our advisers to change their advice. “I want us to do that sooner rather than later." The UK government has so far not advised people to wear masks, saying that there is little evidence of its widespread benefits.
But it has also it is continuing to look at the evidence, as mentioned by the government’s chief scientific adviser earlier this week.
