Coronavirus: Scotland asks non-essential shops to close as UK Government dithers over clampdown

Nicola Sturgeon has asked all non-essential shops in Scotland to close while the UK Government dithers over stronger measures.

The Scottish First Minister, who has been attending Cobra meetings where the UK's response to the coronavirus crisis has been co-ordinated, said too many people were still being expected to work as normal.

Ms Sturgeon said today: "My message to shops that are still open is this and it is clear, if you are not providing essential items like food and medicines then please also close now." Last night Boris Johnson threatened the British public with tougher measures after images from the weekend saw large numbers of people failing to socially distance in parks and on their highstreet.
