Covid-19 patients will be cremated irrespective of their religion: BMC chief

Amid novel coronavirus outbreak in India and recent cases of deaths reported in the country, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s chief said that bodies of Covid-19 patients in the state should be cremated irrespective of religion. "All bodies of Covid-19 patients should be cremated irrespective of religion.

Burial will not be allowed. The funeral should not involve more than 5 people," said Praveen Pardeshi, BMC chief, as ANI reported.

Pardeshi also added that if someone insisted to bury the body, they will only be permitted if the body is taken out of Mumbai city's jurisdiction.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data, Maharashtra currently has 193 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state.
