Covid hospital cases fall to lowest level this year

The number of people with Covid-19 in hospital has fallen to the lowest level this year. As of 8am, there were 532 patients with the virus, a reduction of 67 on the same time yesterday.

It compares to 735 last Saturday and is down by 50% on this day two weeks ago. Today's figure also represents the lowest level in almost four months, since 28 December, when it stood at 521.

The number of people with the coronavirus in intensive care units has risen slightly for a second day. As of 11.30am, there were 44 patients with Covid in ICU, an increase of five on the same time yesterday.
