Donegal locals donate protective gear, equipment for medics

An appeal for personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline medical staff in Donegal has seen individuals and business owners donating everything from disposable gloves to hand sanitisers at a drive-through, drop-off centre in Buncrana.

Organisers also had several instances of nurses driving up and asking for PPE because they had none. The appeal organiser, John Kelly, said that some of these nurses are working in the community and were concerned for themselves and the people they visit.

Mr Kelly set up the appeal because he was aware from friends in frontline roles that PPE stocks were running low. He believed there must be store rooms at many businesses, such as hotels and hairdressers, where stock was lying idle because the premises
