Repeats of Eastenders are due to hit TV screens as BBC bosses battle the coronavirus pandemic – including Angie and Den's Xmas Showdown.

Covid-19 lockdown restrictions mean it is set to run out of new episodes from Albert Square but policy director Clare Sumner told MPs “classics” of the long-running soap opera involving “Angie and Den” would be shown instead.

BBC executive James Purnell told the Commons Culture Committee: “We are going to have to have some repeats. "The main thing driving that is it is very hard to film right now.” Ms Sumner warned that because dramas were filmed so far in advance, schedules would be hit in 2021. “For us it will particularly get thinner next year because of the way that production falls,” she said.
