The parents of a little boy who died after medics failed to spot the signs of sepsis have been awarded a five-figure payout from the hospital trust responsible for his care.
Alfie Scambler-Holt was ‘overwhelmed’ by the deadly infection back in June 2017. He was rushed to Stepping Hill Hospital by ambulance with suspected sepsis but wasn’t seen by a consultant.
He waited more than the recommended hour to receive vital fluids and antibiotics. Nine-year-old Alfie, who had cerebral palsy, passed away just hours later.
His case demonstrated the devastating speed with which sepsis can claim lives - and potential deficiencies in the way the system deals with it.
