There was a moment during Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s stunning opening pass-through of Midgar where a group of children are cycling through the streets of the city’s slums.
At that moment, it hit me – I first entered this city just a child myself. Of course, much has changed since that first visit.
Initially, just the opening salvo of Final Fantasy 7’s incredible atmosphere before players were launched beyond the city limits, this 2020 rendition is much larger, more detailed, and surprisingly still familiar given how much time has passed.
It’s the centrepiece of this first part of Final Fantasy 7’s reimagining, and all roads lead here – almost like home, one might say.
