Forth Valley health board reveals £3.5 million agency cover spend during pandemic

Join thousands of others in getting the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox.NHS Forth Valley forked out a £3.5 million bill to external agencies for staff cover during the first eleven months of the pandemic.The figure was revealed following an Observer Freedom of Information request to the health board, with the total being paid in the period between March 2020 and February 2021.According to the health board, the external agency cover has been contracted for reasons including vacancy cover and sickness, which includes the impact of Covid-19 on the workforce.The request also shows that only just over half of the nursing shifts requested for cover from outside agencies were actually filled during the same period, with 3230.
