Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison announced on Wednesday that former police officer Derek Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder in the case of George Floyd, who died in police custody after video showed Chauvin kneeling on his neck during an arrest.

The charge was upgraded from a previous third-degree murder charge due to evidence supporting the charge. Three officers who were fired after the video surfaced were also charged, with aiding and abetting murder in the second-degree, a felony offence.
