Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison announced on Wednesday that former police officer Derek Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder in the case of George Floyd, who died in police custody after video showed Chauvin kneeling on his neck during an arrest.

The charge was upgraded from a previous third-degree murder charge due to evidence supporting the charge. Three officers who were fired after the video surfaced were also charged, with aiding and abetting murder in the second-degree, a felony offence.

Bootsy Collins doesn’t think black people have “been allowed to advance that much” over the years.Speaking in a new interview, Collins, who rose to prominence with James Brown in the 1970s before later joining Parliament-Funkadelic, discussed how far the black community have come in light of recent events following the death of George Floyd last month.“A lot has changed over the years,” he told The Guardian. “We [black people] have been allowed to gain more, maybe, in terms of money – but the wider mindset is the same.
