George Floyd 'would still be alive if he was white,' says city mayor

George Floyd was "killed because he is black" and the arresting officer "killed someone," the city's mayor said today. Jacob Frey stated in a televised interview he believes the death was as a result of murder.

Mr Floyd died after Officer Derek Chauvin was filmed kneeling on his neck during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as the black man shouted "I can't breathe." He had allegedly tried to use forged documents at a deli.

Speaking in the interview today, Mr Frey said: "I'm not a prosecutor, but let me be clear, the arresting officer killed someone.
