The government has defended a puzzling quirk in lockdown that means you can visit a stranger's house - but not your mum's. House viewings are allowed from today in England to kickstart the market, despite a legal ban on visiting other people's households remaining in force.
Cleaners, nannies and boiler fitters have also already been allowed to go back to work in people's homes, as long as they maintain social distancing.
That all means people can look round a stranger's house - but not visit their closest relatives. Instead the law only allows a maximum of two people, one from each household, to meet in a public place while staying two metres away.
