New government funding will keep Metrolink running for another two months at least, Andy Burnham says. However the Mayor of Greater Manchester has warned long term plans are needed to ensure the sustainability of the network during the pandemic.
At today's Downing Street press conference, the transport secretary Grant Shapps announced £283 million of funding for the country's buses, roads and railways to aid the economic recovery from the Covid-19 crisis.
That includes £29 million for trams and light rail systems and will help them increase the number and frequency of services and "start moving back to a full timetable" he said.
