The remains of a headless skeleton is believed to have been part of a grisly human sacrifice that took place thousands of years ago in China.
Researchers uncovered the still-kneeling skeleton in the Chinese county of Henan – north of the infamous coronavirus outbreak city of Wuhan.
It is estimated the skeleton was sacrificed during the Shang Dynasty some 3,000 years ago. The find is similar to other archaeological discoveries from the Shang Dynasty period.
Previous finds include that 339 bodies were found in in one giant sacrificial pit. Live Science previously reported that as many as 13,000 people were sacrificed in the ancient capital of Yinxu over a period of 200 years.
