A sparsely populated rural electoral district in Co Monaghan has the highest concentration of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country, despite having recorded just one additional case between June and August this year.
The district is Crossalare, located about 12 kilometres due south of Castleblaney. It includes Castleross Retirement Village and Nursing home, which is known to have suffered a significant outbreak of the virus earlier in the year.
The latest data published on the official Covid-19 data hub shows 756 people lived in Crossalare at the time of the last census, and there had been 83 confirmed Covid-19 infections in the district up to the middle of August.
