How to get a Universal Credit emergency loan during coronavirus crisis

A number of measures have been implemented by the UK Government to help people cope with the financial pressures the coronavirus outbreak is expected to have on the nation.

This includes the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP ) who announced that those affected by Covid-19 will be able to apply for Universal Credi t and receive up to a month's advance payment upfront.

It can take up to five weeks for a person to get their first Universal Credit payment and for those in immediate need of financial support, it is now possible to apply for an advance payment.

However, it's important to be aware that this advance must be paid back - beginning from the first payment. At the moment, the advance must be repaid within 12 months.
