Hundreds of workers have reported their employers over claims that they are fraudulently taking furlough money from the government.
Chancellor Rish Sunak announced the furlough scheme back in March in a bid to protect jobs during the coronavirus pandemic. It is currently paying up to 80 per cent of furloughed workers' wages with at least 6.3 million people are currently having their wages paid under the scheme at a cost of around £8 billion.
Mr Sunak announced an extension to the scheme on Tuesday, saying that it will now be in place until the end of October but changes will be made from August and employers will be asked to start making contributions towards workers' wages.
